All you need to know about haskaps and more
The Super Fruit of the North
Haskaps are sweet and tart berries full of antioxidants
Haskaps, one of the most nutritionally dense foods on the market, is quickly becoming our next great superfruit. Whether you eat them fresh or add frozen berries to a dish, their powerful flavour and colour instantly make it a vibrant experience.
The Fruit
Typically they are about an inch long (2.5 cm) and look like a large elongated blueberry. The fruit's juice is a very deep crimson to burgundy colour and will stain your hands.
Versatile and tough as nails, haskaps are unfazed by harsh Alberta weather. They can withstand up to - 50ºC!
The Flavor
Of course, trying it for yourself is the best way to learn.
However, you might find it hard to find haskaps because the industry is just starting to build. The powerful flavour is about 3/4 blueberry, and 1/4 raspberry, with undertones of black current and elderberry.
Expect your taste buds to enjoy the Haskap zing!

Haskap Nutrition
Are they healthy?
The answer is a firm YES! They have three times the antioxidants, five times the anti-inflammatory properties and four times the anthocyanins compared to a high bush blueberry, the past nutrient champion.
Why Anthocyanins?
Recently hitting the headlines, and linked to various health benefits, anthocyanin, a type of antioxidant, is found in all brightly coloured fruit and vegetables. These beneficial plant pigments, which give fruit and veg their deep red, purple or blue hues, now have research linking anthocyanins to various health claims, including increased longevity, cardiovascular health, and dementia and cancer prevention.
Anthocyanins are:
Anti-cancer
Anti-microbial
Cardioprotection
Anti-diabetic
