PURPLE EXPLOSION: Rosy Farms Introduced Healthy Haskaps at Farmers' Markets
We used perfect, hand-picked berries for sampling and selling at the St. Albert and 124 St. Grand Market in early July.
For most people, it was their first experience tasting the haskap super fruit. You could find our booth because of the crowd around it and the line-up that extended down the block. Our team of four gave out tons of information and fruit samples. Customers left with the great haskap taste in their mouth and thoughts of making haskaps a part of their diet.
Our Mission
Spread the word about haskaps as our local super fruit that people need to know about.
Learn new business skills; sales, marketing, and creating a hand-picked product.
Gab for hours about haskaps.
Rosy Farms teamed up with Tammy & Lawrence of Purple Gate Haskap Orchard, Alberta Beach. Together we handpicked Rosy Farms fruit and manned the market booth. Tammy and Lawrence are amazing people and were perfect partners for this adventure. Great memories of sitting on a bucket in the orchard, for 11 hours before each market, picking haskaps. Yes, we did eat a lot. Can you blame us???
Each Market Was Very Different
Sunday, July 1st - 124 St. Grand Market - Consumers were very curious, moving at a more relaxed pace. Lots of learning and talking. Sampling brought smiles to a lot of faces.
Thursday July 5th, 124 St. Grand Market - A very busy crowd. We had the longest line up of any booth as the four of us handed out hundreds of samples and talked as quickly as possible about haskaps. We were happily exhausted by the end of the night. So much fun. PLUS we got an interview by ETown Eats!
Saturday July 7th, St. Albert Market - So many friendly, experienced market goers. Everyone seemed to be in a rush, knowing what exactly to buy and where the vendors were located. We were told we had a great location, right by the kids' bouncy castle... BUT one drop of rain and the castle was down and gone, all before the market had started. We still had hundreds of people enjoy our haskap samples. They left with purple teeth and some information about our berries. The ongoing, light rain made for a calmer day than the other two market experiences.
The markets were a great success because:
Everyone loved our haskaps!
We met so many amazing people and local Edmonton vendors.
We learned haskaps need to be an everyday fruit.
