Antioxidant comparison
At our farm, we're proud to grow haskap fruit, which is packed with antioxidants to help fight off those free radicals. Antioxidants are crucial for protecting our cells from damaging free radicals caused by harmful molecules known as free radicals. Free radicals can accumulate in our cells and cause damage to DNA, proteins, and other essential molecules, leading to a range of health problems
One of the ways to measure the antioxidant levels is through the FRAP analysis (Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power. Basically, it checks how well the fruit can neutralize those pesky free radicals
C3G
The antioxidant that makes haskap fruit SO special!
Oh my, have you heard about the incredible Cyanidin-3-O-glucoside (C3G)? This amazing compound is the major anthocyanin found in haskap berries, making up a whopping 79-92% of its total anthocyanin content and over 60% of its total polyphenols. There is an abundance of evidence showing that C3G-rich haskap preparations, as well as C3G alone, have remarkable antioxidant, cardio-protective, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, anticancer, and anti-diabetic properties. These benefits have been observed both in vitro (in a lab, outside the body) and in vivo (in an animal or human). So, it's no surprise that we are passionate about growing the healthiest and most nutrient-packed haskap berries here at Rosy Farms, packed with the incredible power of C3G to nourish your body and boost your well-being!
Fiber
Fiber, what a wondrous carbohydrate that can be found in so many delightful fruits, vegetables, and whole grains! It truly plays an essential role in maintaining good health, especially in our digestive system. Soluble fiber, with its ability to dissolve in water, can work wonders to lower our cholesterol and keep our blood sugar levels in check. While insoluble fiber can keep our digestive system regular, who wouldn't want that?
Eating fruits that are high in fiber can also make us feel fuller for longer periods of time, helping us prevent overeating and supporting our weight management goals. And, that's not all! A diet that's high in fiber has also been linked to a lower risk of certain chronic diseases like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and even certain types of cancer.
Sugar
Fruit sugars, also known as natural sugars, can be a valuable addition to a healthy diet. Unlike added sugars found in many processed foods, fruit sugars are naturally occurring and provide valuable nutrients such as fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Fruit sugars are also typically lower in calories compared to added sugars, making them a better option for those watching their calorie intake. Additionally, consuming fruits with natural sugars has been linked to a lower risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancer. So, if you have a sweet tooth, opting for fruits that are high in natural sugars can be a smart choice for your overall health and well-being.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C also known as ascorbic acid, this essential nutrient is an absolute superstar when it comes to supporting many functions in our body. It's the most common antioxidant that our body uses, which means it can work wonders in protecting us from harmful molecules called free radicals. And, that's not all! Vitamin C also plays a critical role in supporting our immune system, promoting the production of white blood cells that can fight off infections and illnesses. It's also vital for helping the body absorb iron from plant-based foods and producing collagen, a protein that is essential for maintaining healthy skin, bones, and tissues. So, make sure to include plenty of Vitamin C-rich foods like citrus fruits and veggies in your diet, and let this incredible nutrient help you shine from the inside out!
